Local Government Finance Commission (LGFC) is rolling out the Integrated Local Revenue Admin System (IRAS) to all LGs in the country. Launching the system today at Bushenyi district hqrs , Jean Bageya, head of planning LGFC, said this enables LGs to electronically collect Local revenue & leave analogue methods. She said it has advantages of controlling local revenue leakages, tax payers pay using their phones from anywhere, money moves directly from the tax payer to URA account which sends it to govt consolidated account & back to the local govt. So far, 74 local govts are already upgraded to the system & hopes to roll out to all LGs by end of this year. The vice chairperson, Mugume Ndyahoza welcomed the system saying, local revenue collection has been a threat to service delivery marred with challenges like revenue leakages.
